Lesson 10: Ralph Workman study “Yet Forty Days” Part 1
Obviously, this date came and went and we are still here. I leave this study in place to show the evidence we had for this date and I believe it is important to show that we are often wrong, we see through a glass darkly.

God could have come in physical judgment on May 21st, 2011 but why didn’t He? God did not come in physical judgment for several reasons. However one reason was to fulfill the scripture that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. The message of Judgment Day May 21st, 2011 was spread to the entire world on a scale that has never been seen before in history. The world was holding its breath waiting to see what would happen on that day. When that day passed without incident the churches and the world mocked and said you see you were wrong about Judgment Day. We ourselves were puzzled at first and did not understand what was happening. But the true child of God returned to the scriptures for truth and discovered that yes indeed Judgment Day did begin on that day. However unknown to all at the time was the fact that we had entered into a spiritual judgment. God had transitioned His spiritual judgment from the churches to the whole world. The judgment that we currently find ourselves in is a spiritual judgment that can only be seen by the true believers through the pages of the Bible. The unsaved of the world cannot see these things because they are spiritually discerned. They wanted to see something with their eyes. The Bible declares in Matthew 12:39 that “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:” If you were to ask any of the unsaved today if they believe Judgment Day began on May 21st, 2011 they would say no. If you were to suggest to them that Judgment Day did begin on that day they would most likely ridicule you. You see the unsaved have no idea that Judgment Day began on May 21st, 2011 nor can they see it. Thus fulfilling the scriptures that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. On the other hand the Bible states that the elect are not in darkness that that day should overtake them as a thief in the night for they are the children of light. God has clearly stated in Amos 3:7; “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” God will not leave us. He will continue to reveal truth from His word to help us understand the nature of Judgment Day. This period of Judgment Day will allow the elect additional time to more fully understand God’s plan. Most likely many of the elect are confused as to whether or not May 21st, 2011 was start of Judgment Day. Many are confused also about the timing of the last day when God will rapture the elect and physically destroy the world. God has now revealed enough Biblical evidence that we can say with absolute certainty that Christ will be returning on October 7th, 2015. I know that this is a big statement to make and may offend some. This has nothing to do with pride, as some may sadly mistakenly believe. It has to do with trusting the word of God. When it is time for God to reveal such a major truth such as the completion of His plan for this world He will not leave His elect guessing but will speak with absolute authority and with clear examples from the Bible. When we see these truths clearly in the Bible we cannot say that maybe they will happen because then we would be denying God’s word. Some have made the statement that Harold Camping was absolutely certain that Judgment Day would begin on May 21st, 2011 and so how could anyone be
absolute. Well Mr. Camping was correct about the timing of Judgment Day it did begin on May 21st, 2011. It was however spiritual rather then physical.
As we look into the Bible to find the true nature of Judgment Day and the timing of the end we realize that in human terms this is an impossible task. And it is. We know that man in himself could never know the timing of the end. But through God all things are possible (ref. Mark 10:27). God will reveal it to us.
There is a great deal more information above and beyond what is currently included in this study. This is an outline and if time will allow we will add additional information in the coming months.
The Substance Of Judgment Day Is In The Spiritual Judgment Not In The Physical Judgment
The physical suffering that Jesus did in the flesh did not pay for sin and so does not contribute toward the payment of sin. The price that Jesus paid was spiritual death from before the foundation of the world and that is what paid for our sins. This payment for sin occurred in the spiritual realm before the physical world and flesh were created. Each unsaved individual in return must make the same payment that Jesus would have made for their sin would they have become saved. That is each unsaved person must make the payment of spiritual death. Since the unsaved must make the same payment for sin we find that the spiritual judgment is where the substance is not in in the physical judgment. The physical destruction of the unsaved at the end of Judgment Day will be a demonstration of the fact that they have received spiritual death. Just as Christ physical death at the cross was a demonstration of the spiritual death that He experienced to pay for the sins of the elect. Because we live in a physical world we want to think in physical terms. But the Bible is spiritual and so we must think in spiritual terms. We find that people die in terrible physical accidents everyday but that is not the payment for sin (Ref. Luke 13:1-5). The physical has never been where the substance is. Sacrifices, ceremonial laws, circumcision, water baptism, the Lord’s Supper and so on, all of these were physical signs pointing to the spiritual that is where the substance is. These done in the flesh were merely a sign pointing to the real substance, which is spiritual. That is why God has phased them out. At the beginning of the church age sacrifices, ceremonial laws, circumcision, etc. were no longer required by God. In the same manner after the church age we find that water baptism, the Lord’s Supper, etc. are no longer required. God is in the process of purifying His elect and weaning us off of the physical and bringing us up on the spiritual as we prepare to enter into the kingdom of heaven. We read in John 6:63; “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing:” Based on these truths we should not be surprised at all that we have entered into a spiritual judgment on May 21st, 2011 we should expect it.
We are now beginning to understand just how long Judgment Day will last. In Revelation 14 we read about this judgment specifically in verses 19 and 20:
“19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.”
Blood in the Bible represents life and we see here that the spiritual life is being pressed out of the unsaved in that they no longer have the hope of salvation. This spiritual judgment came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles by the space of 1600 furlongs. Strong’s number for furlong in this verse is g4712. It appears only six times in the New Testament. In five of these places the word furlong is referring to distance. However in the sixth place God does something different he adds the element of time. We read in 1 Cor. 9:24;
“24 Know ye not that they which run in a race (or furlong g4712) run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.” – comments added in parenthesis.
In this verse God uses the same Greek word furlong (g4712) to represent a foot race. A foot race is a function of both time and distance. The runners in this race are in a race against time with the runner finishing with the best time receiving the prize. God is emphasizing in this verse that we must run so that we may obtain the prize. If we are a runner in a foot race then what should we really be concerned about if we want to obtain the prize? We need to be concerned about time. A runner will train hard and push their bodies to the limit all with the goal of improving their time because time has everything to do with wining the race. If we finish the race a split second behind we will lose the prize, a split second ahead and we will win the prize. A runner who is not concerned with time or training their body with the goal of improving his time will not win the race. Time therefore is of the utmost importance if we are to win the race. So we see that a furlong or race as it is used here in this Biblical context has everything to do with time. If you were to remove time there would be no furlong or race. In this verse we can clearly see that God has given us a furlong/time relationship. God is intimately associating the furlong with time and showing us that when we look at the word furlong in Revelation 14:20 we are to associate it with time. And who will run the race to obtain the prize? The answer is the elect those whom Christ has saved. It will be the elect that will be concerned with time. They will be eagerly searching the scriptures looking for the time of Christ return (ref. 2 Pet. 3:11&12). They will know about time and judgment as we read in Ecclesiastes 8:5 “… a wise man’s heart discerneth both time and judgment.” However those who identify with Christ that have not been saved do not run the race to obtain the prize. They are not concerned with time because they have convinced themselves that they cannot know the day and the hour. They do not fully trust in the fact that the Bible is the spiritual word of God and that God will deliver
them. Therefore the unsaved will not receive the prize because they did not run to obtain.
What Unit Of Time Could The 1600 Furlongs Be Referring To?
We now know that the 1600 furlongs of Revelation 14:20 is associated with time. But what unit of time? Years, months, weeks or days? Or is the 1600 furlongs spiritual rather then actual or both? Lets begin first by looking at actual time. From the start it could not be referring to 1600 years because there is no more salvation after May 21st, 2011. There would be no believers left living on earth to be raptured at the end of 1600 years. And we know that on the last day there will be a rapture of living believers (ref. 1Thes. 4:16&17). Therefore it could not be 1600 years. What about 1600 months? Again we have the same problem 1600 months is equal to 133.33 years. So it could not be 1600 months. What about 1600 weeks? 1600 weeks or 11,200 days from May 21st, 2011 would bring us to January 18th, 2042. When we look at this date we find that it has no significance on the Biblical calendar. It does not have any relationship what so ever to any holy days. So there really seems to be no Biblical reason for us to consider January 18th, 2042. That being said lets look at the possibility of 1600 days. 1600 days added to the 8400-day period of the tribulation would give us 10,000 days. Ten in the Bible has to do with completeness and 10,000 days would represent the complete judgment of God on the unsaved world. By making the complete judgment 10,000 days could God be telling us that this is the definite end? We will find out because God will reveal it to us. But even more significant is the fact that when we add 1600 days to May 21st 2011 we come to the day of October 7th, 2015. That day falls right at the very end of the Feast of Tabernacles/Ingathering. As we know every feast day has had its literal fulfillment on the actual day that it was commanded to be observed during the Old Testament days except for one and that is the Feast of Tabernacles/Ingathering. God states in Colossians 2:16-17 that that these days are a shadow of things to come;
“16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: 17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Chirst.”
Therefore at the end of time we should expect a literal fulfillment of the Feast of Tabernacles/Ingathering to occur as God commanded it to be observed followed by the final ingathering of God’s people into the kingdom of heaven.
Based on our findings so far we would have to conclude that the time of judgment that God has in view in Revelation 14:20 is a 1600 day period. However nothing in scripture is of private interpretation. And so if we suspect that this time period is correct we should be able to verify it with much more Biblical evidence. Let’s now look at the spiritual aspect of the 1600 furlongs.
The 1600 Days Are Spiritually Pointing To The Forty Days Of The Flood of Noah’s Day
When we break the 1600 days down we find that it is equal to 40 x 40. The double forties should remind us right away of another great judgment that came upon the earth 7000 years ago. That was the flood of Noah’s day, which was a judgment on unsaved mankind represented by a forty day and forty night period of rain. This forty day and forty night period of judgment began exactly 7000 years prior to 2011 in the 600th year of Noah on the 17th day of the 2nd month just as the 40 x 40 unit period of time in Revelation 14:20 would have begun on May 21st, 2011 (the 17th day of the 2nd month on the Biblical calendar). Both are judgments marked by double forties starting on the 17th day of the 2nd month. The double forty time period of the flood was a judgment on all mankind just as the double forty time period or 1600 days is a judgment on all mankind of our day. Just as God used rain (the word of God) for forty days and forty nights in Noah’s day to bring judgment on mankind He will bring judgment through the word of God for this 40 x 40 (1600 days) of judgment. It is quite interesting that God chose to represent the forty days of the flood as forty days and forty nights. He could have chosen to represent it as forty days. However to help us to understand that the 1600 days (40 x 40) does indeed represent the period of Judgment Day He represented the flood as a double forty or forty days and forty nights. Based on this we can see that the 1600 days are spiritually pointing to the forty days of the flood and vice versa.
As It Was In The Days of Noah
In Matthew 24:37 we read “But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” In other words the flood judgment of Noah’s day is an example or model of the coming of Christ for the Judgment Day that we are currently in. We understand now that Christ has come in spiritual judgment through His word the Bible as we read in John 12:48 “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” Jesus is the word as we read in John 1:14 and so we see that Jesus is coming in spiritual judgment through His word. Now the forty days and forty nights of rain were a judgment by God upon unsaved man of Noah’s day. And what does rain spiritually represent in the Bible? It represents God’s word. Spiritually God is saying that there were forty days and forty nights of the word of God coming down in judgment. In like manner if God came in judgment in Noah’s day for a period marked by double forties then we would have to expect that Jesus would come in judgment through His word for a period marked by double forties. Now God has revealed to us that we do have a time period of judgment marked by double forties and it is the 1600 days (40 x 40) of Revelation 14:20. We have already seen in time past that the days leading up to Judgment Day (May 21st, 2011) fit into this model. For example lets read 2 Peter 3:6-8;
“6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
Notice the statement “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing”. Whenever God uses this language in the Bible it is to emphasize that this is of great importance. He is addressing this to the beloved that is to the elect of God. And so we took notice.
Then we found the following verse in Genesis 7:4;
“For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.”
Someone later determined that when you replace each day with a thousand years in Genesis 7:4 you have 7000 years. And when you add that 7000 years to 4990 BC, the year the flood began; you arrive at the year 2012. Subtract one year from 2012 because there is no year zero and you arrive at the year 2011. God is warning for yet 7000 years and I will bring judgment on the world. We knew that the flood of Noah’s day began on the 17th day of the 2nd month in the 600th year of Noah (ref. Genesis 7:11). And later discovered to our surprise that May 21st, 2011 was actually the 17th day of the 2nd month on the Hebrew calendar. These proofs were discovered only after we had already determined that May 21st, 2011 was the start of Judgment Day from other Biblical information. Now all of these were wonderful proofs, which helped us to lock in May 21st, 2011 as the start of Judgment Day. But this information only brought us part way because God had simply not revealed everything to us at that time. But now after May 21st God has revealed to us two very important pieces of information. The first piece of information is that Judgment Day did begin on May 21st, 2011 and that it is a spiritual judgment. That is God’s word is bringing spiritual judgment on the unsaved and only the elect can see that judgment through the pages of the Bible. The second piece of information that God has revealed to us is the 1600-day (40 x 40) period of Judgment Day. Having these two pieces of information available let’s now take a closer look at Genesis 7:4 to get the spiritual meaning of this verse as it pertains to our day.
“For yet seven days (7000 years), and I will cause it to rain upon the earth (that is bring spiritual judgment through Gods word because rain spiritually represents the word of God) forty days and forty nights (for a spiritual period marked by double forties); and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.” (At the end of the 40 x 40 period God will have accomplished His spiritual judgment and destroyed the earth) – comments added in parenthesis.
By comparing the additional information that God has given us to Genesis 7:4 we find that the information is in harmony with the flood judgment of Noah’s day. It all
locks together very beautifully and provides confirmation that we are on the right track regarding the double forty time period of Judgment Day. You see the next logical place for us to be in time is in the spiritual double forty time period that comes after the seven days or seven thousand years. For May 21st, 2011 was the start of Judgment Day and the start of the spiritual double forty time period of Judgment Day. And interestingly enough we find that we are in a 1600 day or double forty time period as spoken of in Revelation 14:20. Sometimes the most obvious does not become obvious until God decides to open our eyes to it.
God Has Given Us A Key For Opening Truth
Remember God has laid down a model for us in Matthew 24:37; “But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
The forty days and forty nights of the flood judgment of Noah’s day point to one forty day period. In other words the two forties are one. Like the flood judgment of Noah’s day the 1600 days or 40 x 40 of Revelation 14:20 contain a double forty that point to one Judgment Day. Like the flood judgment of Noah’s day Judgment Day has two characteristics and that is judgment and deliverance. That is judgment for the unsaved and deliverance for the elect. Those outside the ark perished under the judgment of God while those on the ark were delivered.
As we search the scriptures to see if any other evidence exists for October 7th, 2015 we will have to look for characteristics that involve the judgment portion of the flood. We are past the 7 days or 7000 years and we are now spiritually in the forty days and forty nights of judgment after May 21st, 2011 and so we must look very close at how God uses the double forties because that is where we are now spiritually in time. By God’s great mercy He has given us a key. We will find that this key will help us to unlock much truth from the Bible regarding the timing of the end. The key has to do with the double forties of the flood of Noah’s day. We will be looking for Biblical events that have the following characteristics. Here is the key:
• Events that feature two forties that point to one and the same judgment/deliverance. Just as the judgment of Noah’s day consisted of forty days and forty nights of rain that point to one forty day period of judgment/deliverance.
As you can see the key is the product of those characteristics that we have found in both the flood of Noah’s day and the 1600 days (40 x 40) of Revelation 14:20. Judgment Day is a period of both judgment for the unsaved and deliverance for the saved. We will be looking for these characteristics when using our key to search the Bible for truth.
Since we are living in this period of time marked by the double forties as described in Revelation 14:20 this study will be focusing on God’s use of the double forties in
the Bible and how they relate to Judgment Day the day in which we are currently living.
After a search of the Bible God has revealed thus far seven events that fit the key above. When we finish reviewing these events we will see how God verifies the events with both scripture and the calendar. I trust that we will find that it will speak for itself and attest to the fact that October 7th, 2015 is the last day.
Event 1 – Israel’s Rebellion At Kadesh-Barnea And Forty Year Sojourn In The Wilderness
This Biblical account is located in Numbers 13-15 (Please read). After leaving Egypt, God brought the people of Israel through the wilderness to a place called Kadesh- Barnea outside of the land of Canaan. Canaan was the land that God had promised to deliver to the people of Israel. Canaan typifies the new heaven and new earth that the true believers will enter into on the last day. The land of Canaan was occupied at that time by other peoples so God instructed the people of Israel to select a leader one from each of the tribes to go into the land of Canaan and search it out. The twelve spies were sent into the land for a period of forty days to see what kind of enemy they were up against and also to find out if the land was good or bad. Upon their return ten of the twelve brought back a bad report. The ten reported that the land was surely a land that flowed with milk and honey, however the people that dwelled in the land, they said, were very much stronger than they and for this reason the people of Israel would be unable to take it. Two of the twelve Caleb and Joshua disagreed with the others and wanted to go up at once and possess the land for they trusted God to deliver it into their hands. Nevertheless the ten others because they did not trust God convinced the heart of the people not to enter into the land. The people then became very upset with God and said “hath the Lord brought us unto this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Were it not better for us to return into Egypt?” The people rebelled against the Lord and threatened to return to Egypt, which typifies the church and the world. After all the miraculous signs that God did in delivering the people of Israel from Egypt they did not trust God to deliver them into the land of Canaan (heaven). As a result God became very angry at the people of Israel and wanted to destroy them. Moses interceded and beseeched God to pardon the people of Israel for their rebellion. God in His mercy pardoned the people but He penalized them severely. God’s penalty was that all who were twenty years old and upward save Caleb and Joshua would not enter into the Promised Land but wander in the wilderness forty years (a year for every day spent in the land spying) until all were consumed after which God would deliver their children into the Promised Land. God indeed carried out His penalty. The people did not enter into the Promised Land until 1407 BC, which was forty years after leaving Egypt. And all those who were twenty years old and upward perished in the wilderness save Caleb and Joshua.
Now lets take a close look at the number forty in this Biblical event. We see that the people of Israel should have been delivered into Canaan (heaven) at the end of the
first forty-unit period of time that is at the end of the forty-day period of searching out the land. However their deliverance was delayed until the end of a second forty- unit period of time – forty years. Notice that we see a pattern of double forties in association with the deliverance of God’s people into the Promised Land (Heaven). Also observe that both forties are pointing to one and the same event the deliverance of God’s people into the land of Canaan (heaven). That is spiritually the two forties are one just as the forty days and forty nights of the flood are pointing to one forty day period. God through His use of the double forties is associating this event with the duration of Judgment Day and the deliverance of His people into heaven. Now let us compare our present day to the information that we have just learned. In like manner to the Israelites of that time we are living in a spiritual double forty-time period. We are also like the Israelites of that day in a time period that is prior to entering into the kingdom of heaven. That is the period spoken of in Revelation 14:20 as 1600 days (40 x 40). If the end of the first forty of the double forty time period for the Israelites at Kadesh-Barnea represented the point in time that they expected to be delivered into the Promised Land but were not; then what date in our double forty time period would represent the end of the first forty? Clearly it would be May 21st, 2011 for like the people of Israel at Kadesh-Barnea we expected to be entering into the Promised Land of heaven. If May 21st, 2011 represents the point in time for the end of the first forty of Revelation 14:20 then the end of the second forty would be at the end of the 1600 days or October 7th, 2015. This point in time for us like it was for the Israelites represents the end of the second forty and the time of deliverance into the Promised Land (heaven).
Now we have not proven anything with absolute certainty at this point in time. The above is to introduce to you how God is using the double forties and how they fit in connection to the current Judgment Day that we are now living in. However by the time we finish this study it will be absolutely proven from the Bible that this is the case. There are many double forty Biblical events to look at and we will come to recognize that this is an ongoing pattern. And with each Biblical event that we look at God will reveal more and more truth concerning the true nature of Judgment Day. God will provide many proofs to the fact that we are living in a double forty Judgment Day period and that October 7th, 2015 is the last day. We will find that God through His use of the double forties is painting a picture of the character of Judgment Day through His use of the double forties.
Lets take a look at some of the characteristics of this double forty time period. As we look at each characteristic notice how the characteristics of this double forty period event match the double forty period that we are currently living in. Just to be clear the spiritual double forty period of Judgment Day that we are looking at is the period of time from the time that Israel returned from searching out the Promised Land (end of the first forty or forty days) until the time they entered into the Promised Land (end of the second forty or forty years).
The Unsaved Will Try To Discourage The Heart Of People By Telling Them That God Will Not Deliver Them During The Double Forty Period Of Judgment Day
Numbers 32:7-13; “7And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them? 8Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land. 9For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lord had given them. 10And the Lord ‘s anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying, 11Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: 12Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the Lord. 13And the Lord’ s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.”
Likewise in the double forty period of Judgment Day (that we are currently living in) we have many who identify with God but are not saved trying to discourage the heart of people by saying that we cannot know the day and the hour. They insist that God will not deliver us into heaven at this time and that it will happen many years from now. Thus discouraging any thought of even looking for Christ return. God is warning that we should not be fooled by those who are trying to discourage us. If we do the result will be that we will not enter into His rest (heaven) because of unbelief.
We read in Hebrews 3:14-19:
14For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. 16For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.”
We know that the large majority of the people of Israel did not trust in God that He would deliver them into the Promised Land (heaven) and so as a direct result they died in the wilderness during that double forty period. Noticed in verse 14 that God is emphasizing that we should hold steadfast until the end and the end of course is where we are right now.
